Why is the COVID-19 Vaccine Important to Stop the Spread of the Virus?

Oaks Senior Living has communities throughout Georgia and is fortunate to be on the list to receive the COVID-19 vaccine before anyone else in the state. We are sharing why this is an essential part of stopping the spread of the virus and how now could be the best time to transition to senior living.

Since the initial outbreak of COVID-19, our society has been trying to figure out how to slow and stop the spread of the virus. We have been doing everything we can to end the pandemic while patiently awaiting a vaccine, from quarantining and social distancing to wearing masks and increasing sanitizing and cleaning practices.

While these practices have played a large role in minimizing the impact of COVID-19, they have not been enough to end the pandemic once and for all. There is a vaccine that is meant to help us achieve this goal; however, the COVID-19 vaccine is in high demand with an extremely limited supply.

Why is it Important to Get the COVID-19 Vaccine?

It Can Help You from Getting the Virus

Each version of the COVID-19 vaccine currently available has been shown to be highly effective in preventing the virus. The Georgia Department of Public Health reports, “Testing was thorough and successful. More than 70,000 people participated in clinical trials for the two vaccines to see if they are safe and effective. To date, the vaccines are nearly 95% effective in preventing COVID-19.”

By getting the COVID-19 vaccine, you are significantly decreasing your risk of getting the virus.

It Builds Immunity & Helps Protect the People Around You

Precautions such as facial coverings and social distancing effectively reduce your exposure to the virus. Still, if you do come in contact with it, you do not have an immunity built up.

Because the virus varies in severity, there is no way of knowing how it will affect you if you were to get it. Additionally, if you do get sick, you will likely expose those around you to the virus as well. By getting the COVID-19 vaccine, you will build up your immunity and help protect individuals around you.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention states, “COVID-19 vaccination will help protect you by creating an antibody (immune system) response without having to experience sickness.”

COVID-19 Vaccine Clinics at Oaks Senior Living

Each of our senior living communities in Georgia is holding three clinics to administer the vaccine to residents and team members. Because each clinic is spread three weeks apart, residents and team members can get both the first and the second dose of the vaccine within one of our communities.

The last community to host the first round of the COVID-19 vaccine clinic is at the end of January. This means that individuals still have time to receive their first dose during the second clinic and their last dose at their community’s third clinic.

Additional Innovations at Oaks Senior Living

GPSAIR

GPSAIR uses ionization to purify the air in any given space. This technology uses an electric charge to create a plasma field high in concentration of both positive and negative ions. These ions travel through the air and attach to harmful particles, pathogens, and gas molecules, killing and breaking down harmful substances in the air. This includes particles of the COVID-19 virus.

Implemented into the common areas of every Oaks Senior Living community, this air purification system is helping us to create a safe environment for residents and team members.

SafeHug Windows

Oaks Senior Living communities throughout Georgia have also implemented SafeHug Windows, allowing residents and their loved ones to see, hear, and touch one another while in quarantine. Socialization and human connection are essential to health and wellness, and due to the pandemic, contact with family and friends has been limited. These windows have made it possible to safely visit with others during these difficult times.

The battle against the virus is far from won, but the COVID-19 vaccine and other developments have helped us make progress. To learn more about how Oaks Senior Living is combatting the effects of COVID-19 and providing a safe environment for residents, contact a member of our team.
