Meet the Staff at Hollander Sandy Springs
We staff Hollander Sandy Springs managed communities with professionally-trained caregivers, selected for their knowledge, compassion, and understanding of residents’ needs.
Glenda Shaw, LPN Executive Director
I am a native of the small, but historical Selma Alabama. I am the middle child of 5. My parents worked hard to make sure my siblings and I understood success is a result of hard work, sacrifice, perseverance and most of all, love of what you are doing. Immediately after high school I joined the U.S. Army and from 1990 to 1991 I served in Operation Desert Storm. Although my husband and I grew up in the same hometown, we met in Fort Jackson, South Carolina while in the military. We have been married for 24 years and have 2 awesome children.
I became a nurse because I have a passion and a drive to be a part of the healing process. After spending 12 years as a bedside nurse, I obtained a master’s degree in management and leadership. I had a desire to do something more and to be a part of something bigger than myself. Being a bedside nurse and also serving in a leadership role has taught me that patient satisfaction and outcomes can be directly tied to the happiness of the team. My personal and professional vision is to simultaneously create a happy place for residents and staff. My favorite quote ’Death is not the greatest loss in life. The greatest loss is what dies inside us while we live.’ Norman Cousins
Therese’ Boutwell Community Relations Director
Since I was a little girl, the Oaks has always been my home away from home. I loved being able to get to know the residents and be a part of activities; although, until recently I never saw myself pursuing a career in the senior industry. After graduating from Georgia Southern University in 2015 with a B.S. in Public Relations, and searching for Public Relations jobs in Atlanta, I found that nothing really hit home for me. It was hard for me to find a job in which I loved what I was doing, and felt that I was truly making an impact on those around me. After months of living in Atlanta and working in the restaurant industry, I was offered an internship with Oaks Senior Living; in which, I worked every position in the community, in order to obtain a position as a Community Relations Director. Now as a member of the Hollander Sandy Springs team, I am privileged to be able to spend time with our residents and every day with them is a blessing.
Neverle Simons Lifestyle Director
I became a certified CNA right after high school because of my passion for people. Originally born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana I moved to Atlanta, Georgia in 2002 seeking more opportunities in the healthcare field. I have had the opportunity to grow and experience different and exciting positions such as Certified Medication Technician, Memory Care Director and now Lifestyle Director. I have been blessed to have the opportunity to continue my education, and I will soon receive my associates of Art in healthcare administration degree. A wife and proud mother of six, I enjoy music and fun outdoors activities. I’m honored to be working as a Lifestyle Director planning and coordinating activities with our wonderful seniors.
Gloria Mcalister Business Office Manager
I’m from a little twin island in the Caribbean called Trinidad and Tobago. I moved to the States in 2002 and shortly thereafter my son was born. We lived in Brooklyn New York for four years, I married my husband and then we moved to Georgia. I have always loved being around the senior population because they always have the best stories to tell about the past so before I move to Georgia I became a Certified CNA and started my career amongst the senior population.
I was given an opportunity to fulfill my dreams at this community in 2009. I have worked as a Caregiver, a Lead Medication Technician, Memory Care Supervisor, and later the Resident Service Director. I am presently working as the Business Office Manage.
I enjoy being outdoors and listening to music. I love traveling whenever I get the chance and meeting new People.
JoAnne Barbour Food Service Director
I was born in the small island of St Vincent and Grenadines. I migrated to the USA in 1992. I have three children, 2 boys Sean and Troy who were born in St Vincent and my baby girl Hakeena who was born in America. I lived in Newark New Jersey where my Family still resides. I’ve always had a great passion for food. I would many days as a child watch my mom and Grandmother cook and as soon as I got the opportunity I went to Culinary school in New York. In 2003 I started working as a Cook in an Assisted Living Community in New Jersey
I moved to Atlanta in 2007 where I continued working as a cook. I was then given the opportunity to become a Dietary Director where I stayed for 6 years. I enjoy shooting pool and hosting friendly gatherings that allow me to cook and entertain.
